Dual Nursing Assistant & Home Health Aide (NA/HHA)

A 4-week, 110-hour program that builds foundational knowledge, practical skills, and professional behaviors for entry-level employment.

Course Objectives

By the end of the Dual Nursing Assistant & Home Health Aide Program, students will be able to:

  • Deliver safe, person-centered basic care across long-term care, home health, hospital, and hospice settings.
  • Apply core knowledge from classroom learning, demonstrate psychomotor skills in the skills lab, and perform these skills appropriately during supervised clinical experience.
  • Practice according to ethical, safety, and regulatory expectations aligned with state and federal standards.
  • Competently perform foundational tasks (e.g., infection control, personal care, mobility/transfer, communication and documentation) to workplace standards during clinical rotation.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the Nursing Assistant Training Program (NATP) at Tri-Hearts Skill Center will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate competence in performing all required nursing assistant skills safely and effectively according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) Nurse Aide Competency Standards.
  2. Provide quality, compassionate, and person-centered care that supports the dignity, privacy, and rights of residents and patients.
  3. Communicate clearly and respectfully with residents, families, and members of the healthcare team.
  4. Apply infection control and safety practices to maintain a clean and secure care environment.
  5. Recognize and report changes in residents’ physical or emotional conditions promptly and accurately to nursing staff.
  6. Exhibit professional behavior, ethical standards, and accountability in all classroom, lab, and clinical activities.
  7. Successfully complete the Massachusetts Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation and qualify for placement on the Massachusetts Nurse Aide Registry.
  8. Demonstrate readiness for employment as an entry-level Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a variety of healthcare settings
